Explore Truckee-Tahoe’s most scenic terrain from the best seat on the trail. Horseback riding is a unique outdoor adventure and throwback to the cowboy days of Truckee’s history dating back to the 1800s. You’ll get a different perspective from the saddle, and the chance to cover much more ground than on foot. There are many options for day rides, including beginner and kid-friendly trips, making this one of our favorite summer activities for families.
Cool off in summer with a float down the Truckee River! Different sections of the river provide an adventure for everyone, from beginner floats to technical whitewater. The calmest section is from Tahoe City to River Ranch. Here, you can rent a raft and take a leisurely float without a guide. If you’re looking for a more exciting whitewater experience, book a guided trip with a rafting outfitter who will lead you through class II and III rapids on the Truckee River.

Check out these paved trails! They say the reward is in the journey and that couldn’t be more true than using a bicycle around Truckee. As you glide your way around town, you’ll slow down and appreciate the beauty around you. Hear the sounds of nature and inhale the aromatic scent of pine. Find unique boutiques that you never even noticed before. Stop wherever or whenever you want with the freedom a bike gives you. Don’t worry. You don’t have to be a hardcore mountain biker or a Tour de France cyclist to enjoy it. These popular paved bike trails in Truckee are perfect for an outside family outing.
Truckee is the epicenter of golf in the Truckee-Tahoe region, home to nine beautiful courses within a 20 minute drive from downtown. Golf enthusiasts will love the great weather, beautiful scenery, challenging terrain and abundance of 18-hole courses.

Pickeball is one of the fastest growing sports in the nation, and Truckee is no exception. Truckee has scenic outdoor courts in Tahoe Donner and indoor courts at the Truckee Rec Center. And more courts are on the way in 2024!
