Start your day with a FREE pancake breakfast at Truckee Fire Station 92, located at 11473 Donner Pass Road near the start of the July 4th Parade. It’s a true Truckee Local experience where the community gathers to celebrate and support our local firefighters over coffee and pancakes. Donations benefit the Truckee Firefighters Charitable Fund (TFCF) which provides scholarships to Truckee High School students who will pursue fire suppression or emergency medicine.
Truckee's 4th of July festivities kick off first thing in the morning with the Firecracker Mile, where runners of all levels (elite to family fun) toe the line for staggered starts beginning at 9:45am. The mile-long race follows the parade route.
After the race, the Truckee July 4th Parade begins at 10am near Truckee High School. Free for spectators, the event is a Truckee tradition and family-friendly event that our community loves. Come prepared to find a spot and settle in for the show. Bring folding chairs, pack plenty of water and snacks, and cheer on the floats and parade participants as they shimmy along Donner Pass Road into downtown Truckee.
FREE shuttles available from 8am to 1pm from Truckee neighborhoods to Downtown Truckee. Serves Prosser, Glenshire, Sierra Meadows, Donner Lake, Tahoe Donner, and Northstar. View schedule and map.
Donner Pass Road will be closed for the Parade from Truckee High School to Bridge Street/Church Street from 9am - 12:30pm on July 4th. Highway I-80 Central Truckee onramps and exits will be fully closed.
Expect LIMITED parking near the parade. No street parking will be available on the parade route. Paid street parking in Downtown Truckee is waived during the parade hours. A large parking lot with EV chargers is located directly across from the Artists Lofts (view Google map).
Ride your bike! Get to the Truckee 4th of July Parade in Historic Downtown using Truckee's scenic paved trails and bike lanes.
The Truckee Welcome Center (view Google map) has a public bathroom and water refill station. Porta potties will also be available at the Truckee High School staging area. Truckee restaurants will also be open for food and beverage purchases.
The grand finale to your July 4th celebrations - fireworks! Truckee’s annual fireworks show happens at West End Beach (view Google map) at Donner Lake. The show starts at 9:30pm and ends around 10pm. While the West End Beach celebration is only open to Truckee-Donner Recreation and Parks District residents, fireworks are visible from around the lake and nearby trails, so there are many ways to watch.
Please report illegal fireworks by calling 9-1-1.
Go car-free, it's way easier than trying to find parking on the 4th! Here's an overview of Truckee's free transportation options. For more details, scroll down to the next tab, "Shuttles and Transportation".
Bathrooms (porta potties) and trash receptacles will be available at the shuttle pickup area at Truckee High School and along the north side of Donner Lake. Public bathrooms and drinking fountains are located at West End Beach, Donner Lake Boat Launch Marina, and Donner Memorial State Park.
Attending the 4th of July Celebration at West End Beach? Get excited for a full day of fun with music, games, and feel good summer vibes all day. Here's the full schedule:

July 4th is one of Truckee-Tahoe's busiest times of the year. If you're looking for peace and solitude in the mountains, spring and fall is the perfect time for an uncrowded experience. If you're joining us for the holiday celebrations, remember to pack some patience in your pocket. You're on mountain time, so slow down, appreciate the view, and have a plan B if plan A doesn't pan out.
There’s hardly a more beautiful spot to celebrate our country’s purple mountain majesties than Truckee-Tahoe! Show your love for our mountain town by helping us keep it clean, green, and trash-free throughout the holiday weekend.
During the busy holiday week, expect garage bins to be full. Please bring an extra bag with you to pack out ALL of your trash. At the end of the day, bring your full bag back to your home, rental, or hotel, where you can sort trash from recycling and secure waste in a bear-proof dumpster or garbage bin.
Need a bag? Keep Truckee Green will be providing bright orange trash bags on July 4th at the West End Beach shuttle pickup area at Truckee High School.
Thank you for choosing to Leave No Trace! Your actions help prevent litter in our small mountain town and keep Truckee-Tahoe wildlife safe, including black bears. Read the Visitor's Guide to Black Bears and Food Storage to learn more.
Just as satisfying as a post-vacation detox smoothie, attending a local litter clean-up can be a rewarding wrap on your Truckee visit. Giving back to your host community is a feel good way to end your trip, plus you'll get to hang out with Truckee-Tahoe locals and earn some mountain good karma along the way.
Drop into one or both of these litter cleanups after July 4th. No reservations or advance signups required!
Use Request Truckee (See Click Fix) to report trash issues to the Town of Truckee.
Read the Visitor's Guide to Boating, Water Recreation, and Sustainability for everything you need to know about spending time on or at the water in Truckee and Lake Tahoe. Remember, you're at altitude - our waters are fed by ice cold snowmelt and mountains make their own weather at elevation.
Just like driving a car, it's illegal to operate a boat under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Make a plan for a designated boat operator before launching into the water. Thanks for keeping the safety of your passengers, yourself, and our community top of mind during the holidays.
Here for the week? Keep the good times and summer vibes going during your stay. We're looking forward to Truckee Tahoe Gravel on July 1st, Summer Concert on the Green at Tahoe Donner July 1-2, Truckee Thursday on July 6th, free live music in the park (Wednesdays) and on the beach (Fridays), and much more. For details, check our Events & Festivals page.
