Powder days in Truckee-Tahoe are the stuff of legends. Deep untracked snow, cobalt blue skies, and some of the best terrain in the world. Winter storms can come in quickly and can deposit FEET of snow overnight.

Riders can make a timed transfer between the Sugar Bowl | Donner Summit Shuttle and the TART Truckee Local Route at the Coldstream stop.
Truckee, California is 200 miles northeast of San Francisco, 100 miles east of Sacramento, and 32 miles west of Reno, Nevada. We’re conveniently located along Interstate Highway I-80, making it easy to get here by car. Once here, there are two ways in and out of Truckee from the Lake Tahoe Basin - Highway 267 and US-89. On popular weekends in the summer or winter, these can get busy so be sure you’re prepared for the extra travel time.
Reno-Tahoe International Airport
The Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) is a 30 minute drive from Truckee, connecting our town to virtually anywhere in the world. Eleven airlines offer more than 130 daily flights to 20+ non-stop destinations including New York, Chicago, Seattle, Portland, Denver, and southern California. From RNO, there are several car rental agencies to choose from or hop on the North Lake Tahoe Express, an airport shuttle servicing the Truckee-Tahoe region.
Truckee Tahoe Airport
The Truckee Train Station in the heart of downtown is a stop on several cross-country Amtrak routes, including the California Zephyr, known as one of the most beautiful train rides in North America. Starting just across the bay from San Francisco in Emeryville, it provides a fast connection between the Bay Area as well as the Sacramento region to Truckee.
The Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) is 30 minutes from Truckee-Tahoe, connecting our town to virtually anywhere in the world. RNO’s 10 airlines provide more than 130 daily flights to 20+ non-stop destinations including New York, Chicago, Seattle, Portland, Denver, and southern California.
From Reno-Tahoe International Airport, you'll have access to nine rental car agencies with rental car pick-up available right outside the terminal building. All rental car counters are located in baggage claim.
Year-round, scheduled service between Reno-Tahoe International Airport and Truckee. Not only does this shuttle provide an easy, convenient way to get to and from RNO, it also helps reduce the carbon footprint of your vacation and allows for a car-free experience in Truckee-Tahoe.

Stay in Truckee and get around on the free "Mountain Uber". TART Connect is a FREE, on-demand shuttle that provides point-to-point rides throughout Truckee, making it easy to get to and from lodging, dining, shops, trails, and beaches without a car. Download the app, order a ride, and get picked up in as a little as 15 minutes. Additional vehicles have also been added to the fleet this winter to help minimize wait times.
Free public transportation is available through the Tahoe Truckee Area Regional Transportation (TART). Use the homepage trip planner or download the app to find routes throughout Truckee-Tahoe and view real-time arrival estimates.
Truckee is committed to reducing its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 80 percent by 2040, which includes migrating the town’s fleet to electric. For those owners and other eco-conscious travelers who can rent an electric vehicle, Truckee welcomes you to meander far and explore our region easily. Within the greater Truckee-Tahoe region, there are nearly 60 charging stations.
In downtown Truckee you’ll find charging stations at the Truckee Railroad Museum/Amtrak station as well as public parking at Truckee Railyard (near Artists Lofts) offering loads of shopping, dining, and entertainment options.

For those enjoying the slopes or visiting one of the ski resorts for some summer fun, there is on mountain charging available at Northstar Mountain Resort, Palisades Tahoe, and Boreal. Get a few runs in or just stroll through the Village at Palisades Tahoe. Lace up a pair of skates and grab a meal at Northstar Mountain Resort. You can even go skiing under the lights at Boreal. All these activities and more are available to you as your EV juices up.
At RNO Airport, taxis and ride-sharing companies are available at the arrivals area. One-way rides between the airport and downtown range from $160-$200. To arrange for a limo, SUV or taxi ride in advance, contact your local lodging concierge team for referrals to specific transportation companies based on your personal travel needs.
In Truckee, Lyft and Uber offer in-city transportation from local drivers. All rides can be scheduled using smartphone apps.
Whether you're staying in Tahoe Donner, the historic district, or another neighborhood, you can hop on a FREE SHUTTLE to get you to the main drag. Truckee TART Connect is a door-to-door shuttle service around town. And once you’re in downtown Truckee, all stores, restaurants, and bars are easily within walking or distance.
Biking in and around Truckee is also easy on Truckee's scenic paved trails. Ask if your lodging provides bicycles during your stay or rent an electric bike from one of the docking stations in Truckee.

Tahoe Truckee Area Regional Transportation (TART) buses offer service throughout the region between Truckee and as far as the iconic Sand Harbor. Connections include easy access to the slopes of Palisades Tahoe as well as Northstar Mountain Resort. You can even hop a bus to other attractions such as Tahoe City, Tahoma, or even Kings Beach.
Get around Truckee on an e-bike! BCycle pedal-assist electric bikes are located at docking stations throughout town, from Downtown Truckee to Donner Lake. Using the BCycle mobile app, sign up for a daily or monthly pass, then unlock a bike, go for a ride, and return the bike to any docking station once finished. Ideal for one-way, point-to-point trips.
Truckee's 26 miles of scenic paved trails connect various neighborhoods from Glenshire to the Airport District to Downtown Truckee. These bike trails are separated from the road and provide cyclists a beautiful commute into town or leisurely ride without the stress of vehicle traffic.
Truckee is a world-class destination for biking in itself so it’s a no-brainer that biking and walking are great ways to get around Truckee and the surrounding region. A variety of roads with designated bike lanes give riders access to the surrounding area. The Tahoe Bike Map can help cyclists plan a scenic road ride or map out routes to get where they need to go via bike.
