Staff Ambassador

Sustainable Truckee Staff Ambassadors serve as critical eyes and ears for our local trails and trail users. These individuals provide a friendly welcome to all while roving trails, paved paths, beaches, and docks in Truckee on foot and on e-mountain bikes. They share their local knowledge of the Truckee-Tahoe area, providing information and orientation to visitors.

Staff Ambassadors proudly wear the Sustainable Truckee Ambassador uniform and name tag, and carry first aid supplies.

Most importantly, Ambassadors keep an eagle eye out for fire danger while educating users on current weather, conditions, and closures. They also share messages about wildfire safety and Leave No Trace.

Ambassadors receive training to ensure they are equipped with the skills and resources to monitor for fire and trash concerns, provide friendly, inclusive education, and report back on trail conditions.

Along with above, Ambassadors also run the Sustainable Truckee Bike Valet, a free bicycle parking service at Truckee Thursdays and Music in the Park.

Staff positions are filled for the season. Volunteer positions are open all summer!

Volunteer Ambassador

Sustainable Truckee Volunteer Ambassadors sign up for available shifts to rove Truckee trails, paved paths, beaches, and docks. They provide a friendly welcome to all, wear the Sustainable Truckee uniform and name tag, and educate users about wildfire safety and Leave No Trace.

Volunteer Ambassadors can also sign up to help staff the Sustainable Truckee Bike Valet, a free bicycle parking service at Truckee Thursdays and Music in the Park.

Secret Steward

Secret Stewards fly under the radar while taking care of Truckee's trails, beaches, and paved paths. They do not wear a uniform or name tag, and do not receive Ambassador training.

On their own time, Secret Stewards hike, run or bike their favorite trails and report back on conditions and potential hazards.

This position is ideal for those who want to get involved but don't have much time or want to help out on their own schedule. Commit as much or little as you want!

Youth Ambassador

Got passionate kids that want to help? Minors under 18 years old can get involved as a Youth Ambassador. Youth Ambassadors have the option of helping out at the Sustainable Truckee Bike Valet (Truckee Thursdays and Music in the Park) or roving Truckee's scenic paved paths to report on trash and fire concerns.

Destination Stewardship

Tourism is foundational to the fabric of our community and economic vitality. This requires an artful balance for both residents and visitors to ensure quality of life and authentic experiences for everyone.

In October 2020, the first official tourism authority for Truckee, California was formed as Visit Truckee-Tahoe. A strategy for balancing tourism with protecting and preserving Truckee as an economically thriving, authentic mountain town was long overdue.

The Visit Truckee-Tahoe (VTT) Board of Directors voted to fund the development of a five-year Destination Stewardship Plan in order to take the lead on addressing population surges due to both peak period visitation (summer/winter) and new residency.

Sustainable Truckee is an initiative championed and funded by Visit Truckee-Tahoe (VTT) that promotes stewardship projects that protect and enhance our environment and community. Sustainable Truckee Ambassadors are managed by Truckee Trails Foundation and primarily funded by Visit Truckee-Tahoe's "Sustainable Truckee" initiative. Additional funding partners include Keep Truckee Green, Truckee Fire Protection District, and Nevada County.
