There’s no bad time to visit Truckee-Tahoe. Winter snow is prime for skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, and cross country striding and skating. Summer is a lively time, with trails and beaches open for hiking, biking, kayaking, etc. But if we had to pick a favorite time of the year, it would be the shoulder seasons - spring and fall. There are fewer crowds, better deals, gorgeous wildflowers or fall colors, and plenty of fun activities.

We recommend a stay of 4-5 days midweek. This gives you a day or two to get used to the altitude and plenty of time for a full itinerary. Take it from us, midweek is the best time to visit. You’ll avoid weekend traffic and crowds, get the best lodging and activity deals, and have the town to yourself.
For those considering a longer stay, it’s never been easier to work remotely while you’re here. Truckee hotels and mountain homes provide comfortable spaces with high-speed internet to keep you connected. When you need to get out of the house, try Lift Workspace, a modern co-working space with tons of amenities, or one of Truckee’s cozy coffee shops.
Tips for working remotely on your next Truckee-Tahoe vacation
Tucked into the Sierra Nevada, the town of Truckee sits at an elevation of 5,980 ft, higher than Denver, the “Mile High” city at 5,280 feet. Nearby trails climb to heights of 9000 ft or more so you’ll probably spend time at even higher elevations. If you are traveling from a lower elevation, take all necessary precautions to prevent altitude sickness.
Here are a few tips to prepare for altitude:
Truckee is very dog-friendly! Most trails are open to dogs, and many of those allow well-behaved pups off-leash. There are also dog-friendly beaches and public piers for dogs that love water. Some restaurants and breweries allow dogs in outdoor seating areas, just be sure to call and ask before you go.
Please carry extra bags and pack out dog poop.
