Christmas Tree Permits 2024

Cut your own Christmas tree in Tahoe National Forest! Permits are $10 per tree (limit two per household) and available on Recreation.gov from Nov 1 – Dec 31, 2024.

Make sure to select the correct Ranger District and review cutting guidelines on Recreation.gov.

Getting Around Truckee

TART Connect - FREE On-Demand Shuttle in Truckee-Tahoe

TART Connect Schedule:

Fall - Sept 3rd through Dec 11, 2024. 6:30am-10pm daily

Use the FREE on-demand shuttle to get from your Truckee lodging to anywhere within Truckee town limits. Point to point rides seven days a week. Download the TART Connect APP on Android or Apple, then order a ride and get picked up in as little as 15 minutes. Additional vehicles have also been added to the fleet this winter to help minimize wait times.

Tahoe National Forest Fire Restrictions

From Sept 29, 2024 through Nov 28, 2024 - NO CAMPFIRES, smoking, shooting, and charcoal BBQs on Tahoe National Forest Lands & recreation areas.

Truckee Fire Ban

In effect for Truckee and Donner Summit residential areas:

NO WOOD OR CHARCOAL FIRES & BBQs. Residential campfires/bonfires that burn anything other than gas. BBQ’s that burn solid fuel like charcoal briquettes, wood or lump charcoal including the Big Green Egg type are not prohibited.
Outdoor gas devices are permitted including gas fire pits, gas BBQ’s, pellet burning devices.
During a Red Flag Warning, all open flames are banned including gas grills. Red Flag Warnings are posted by the National Weather Service and posted on truckeefire.org.

Donner Memorial State Park Fire Restrictions

Camping: Fires permitted in designated camp rings.
Day Use: Wood and charcoal prohibited in day use areas. Propane/gas grill allowed.
During a Red Flag Warning, wood and charcoal fires are prohibited.

Guide to Power Outages (PSOMs)

During extreme fire weather, utility companies may shut off power to Truckee to minimize the risk of wildfire. Whether you’re visiting the area or live locally, be prepared for wildfire safety power shutoffs and know that unplanned outages are also possible during wildfire season.

What is a PSOM?

PSOM stands for Public Safety Outage Management, a program by NV Energy to protect high-risk communities during extreme weather events. When there is an imminent threat of fire danger, NV Energy will shut off power delivered via transmission lines to Truckee Donner Public Utility District (TDPUD) and Liberty Utilities.
